Israel Occupies Tenth Position Regarding the Counterfeiting Of Cialis and Other Drugs

Permanent Forum on International Pharmaceutical Crime makes it clear that after Japan and China, Israel is marked out as the country infamous for the prevalence of drug counterfeiting. It was further revealed that with regard to the prevalence of fake drugs, Israel ranks tenth among the list of countries. The fake drugs mostly found in Israel include counterfeit versions of the erectile dysfunction drugs like Viagra and Cialis, medicines for cancer and HIV/AIDS treatment, botox, pain killers, antibiotics, psychiatric medication, medicines for blood dilution and various others.

Reports by Permanent Forum on International Pharmaceutical Crime indicate that in 2006, 25 incidents of fake drugs were registered in Israel. Regarding the availability of fake drugs in Israel, Mickey Arieli, the new national coordinator for the Israeli Health Ministry in pharmaceutical crime states that the medicines are not manufactured in Israel, they arrive from China and India.

The counterfeit drugs in Israel are most frequently sold via the internet, in market places as well as via newspaper ads and in some instances; they are directly bought from the pharmacies.
