Date: 6th August 2007 Recently in the UK, the UK Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) confiscated several illegal generic versions of Cialis and the Pfizer manufactured erectile dysfunction drug Viagra costing around £350,000 (€519,000) and sold under the names Apcalis, Lovegra and Kamagra. After the seizure, Danny Lee-Frost, the head of criminal operations at MHRA makes it clear that the confiscated drugs didn’t pass through the proper licensing procedure and as such they cannot be relied on completely. He also adds that as the medicines are not properly licensed, they are capable of posing health threat to people. The large scale seizure of fake drugs that was undertaken at West London was an indelible part of the continuous efforts undertaken by the MHRA to restrict the sale of unlicensed medicines. Even though no person has been arrested till now on this account, any individual found to be guilty under the UK Medicines Act is liable for unlimited fine and two years imprisonment.
