Cialis (tadalafil), the trademark prescription drug for the treatment of men with erectile dysfunction may be made available in a smaller dosage form shortly. Lilly ICOS LLC has submitted a file, requesting for the approval to market Cialis 2.5 mg and 5 mg, once-a-day dosing, with the European Medicines Agency (EMEA). PaulClark, CEO and Chairman of ICOS sounded very excited about the prospect of the new Cialis once-a-day dosing to treat ED. Lilly ICOS also plans to submit the same request in the United States and Canada later this year. The chairman cited market research to show that the once-a-day therapy has more appeal among ED patients in their 40s. (Age group targeted by ED drug marketers) The latest file was submitted after a 3 Phase clinical trial to establish the safety and efficacy of Cialis once-a-day dosing among men with erectile dysfunction. The study showed that Cialis once-a-day dosing improved the conditions of ED to a greater level as compared to the placebo. The new dosing was well-tolerated, with a few mild side effects like headache and stomach upset. Leonard Blum, Vice President of sales and marketing ICOS, said that Cialis once-in-a-day dosing is a part of the long term strategy to optimize the value of tadalafil. He added that the price of the new Cialis tablet would be lower than the existing ones. Lilly ICOS expects a boost in the worldwide Cialis sales by 2008, riding on the wave of the new Cialis dose they are preparing to launch in 2007. Source: finanzen.net |
