In a study presented at the 36 th Annual Meeting of the International Continence Society (ICS), it became evident that in comparison to the men without any symptom of overactive bladder (OAB), erectile dysfunction or impotency is more frequent among people with OAB. The study results were based on the experimentation undertaken by Dr Irwin and his colleagues on 502 men aged over 50 belonging to countries such as Sweden , Italy , Germany , Canada and United Kingdom . The researchers conducted telephonic conversation with the above men and also with a group consisting of 502 people who did not have the OAB symptoms. Inquires were made on the extent to which urinary symptoms were responsible for the decline in sexual activity, satisfaction and enjoyment of men. The doctors measured the prevalence of urinary incontinence (UI) and overactive bladder in the men on the basis of 2002 ICS definitions and figured out the occurrence of ED among them by raising a question from the Massachusetts Male Aging Study. As the experimentation came to a close, from among the participants who were sexually active over the 12 months before enrolling themselves for the study, 34.7% OAB affected men were found to suffer from erectile dysfunction. The final results also indicated that OAB is prone to trigger off erectile dysfunction in men in the same manner in which diabetes and hypertension leads to erectile dysfunction. This specific erectile dysfunction study was funded by Pfizer Pharmaceuticals. More notes on Erectile Dysfunction :
