In an experiment performed at Harvard Medical School, the researchers reached the conclusion that the people who do cycling, especially those who undergo this exercise for more than three hours per day are likely to suffer from erectile dysfunction. This conclusion was derived on the basis that while cycling a biker has to sit on the bike for long hours and consequently pressure is exerted on the perineum area that lies in between the genitals and the anus. Injury to the perineum damages the nerves located in the area which leads to the disturbance in blood flow and the ultimately the person falls in the grip of erectile dysfunction. In the experimentation, it became clear that people using conventional bikes are more prone to suffer from erectile dysfunction than the ones traveling on recumbent bikes. The doctors performing the trial pronounced that the likelihood of succumbing to erectile dysfunction can be averted by wearing padded biking shorts and raising the handlebars so that the major pressure is exerted on the buttocks and less pressure is thrust on the perineum area. The researchers further advised that if one feels a particular effect on the penis he should stop cycling immediately. Source: Harvard Medical School February 2007More notes on Erectile Dysfunction :
