The Practice Of Male Circumcision

Circumcision of a male is the act of cutting a little part of the male foreskin or the whole of it and it is performed to meet a variety of end results. A male is circumcised as an attempt to change his sexuality, to mark his entry into adulthood, as a symbol of slavery and on specific occasions, circumcision is also symbolic of the circumcised male's submission to a deity.

Male circumcision is sometimes attempted as a form of religious ritual with the practice turning into a mandatory process in Judaism and Islam. It is also becoming customary in some Christian churches. Some indigenous groups in Africa have been practicing male circumcision for a very long period as a mark of their culture.

Circumcision & Sexual Pleasure

Some of the studies conducted on circumcised men have shown the men losing penis sensitivity after circumcision and in contrary to this end result, there are other studies that reveal that circumcised men are more prone to masturbate , to involve in heterosexual as well as homosexual anal sex.

These facts point to the conclusion that it is still not known whether male circumcision increases or decreases the sexual pleasure experienced by the circumcised male and his female partner.

Circumcision & HIV

Circumcision is considered a positive step towards the prevention of HIV with research result pointing out that circumcised males in Uganda are 60% less likely to be infected with HIV. But the World Health Organization (WHO) counters this theory by stating that male circumcision does not adequately provide protection to people against HIV. WHO makes it clear that in league with others, circumcised males are also highly capable of contracting the HIV virus and after they are afflicted with HIV, it is likely that they would pass on the virus to other people.

Health Complications From Circumcision

Chances of side-effects and other related disorders are very low if a person is circumcised through safe and secure medical surgery but on carrying out circumcision haphazardly the results can be disastrous. The most prominent end results from uncautiously carried out circumcision are post-operative bleeding and infection. Circumcision can lead to other disastrous health results like urinary fistulas and impotence and as such it should be avoided.

Conclusion

Finally, as it is observed that circumcision does not lead to any conspicuous benefits and the practice places men at the risk of heath hazards, there should be a yearning on the part of the people throughout the world to curb on the practice. It is in no way the proof of wisdom to inflict injury on oneself just for the sake of maintiaing the customs of society and to satisfy certain false theological beliefs.
