What Is Male Infertility?

The definite inability of a man to produce an offspring is termed as male infertility. To be more precise male infertility is defined as the incapability of a man to produce children after indulging in sexual intercourse with his partner for a full year without utilizing any contraceptives.

Findings by National Institutes of Health make it apparent that among the 2.6 million infertile couples residing in the US, male infertility has been found in 40% cases.

Surgical Procedures

• Among the highly used surgeries to treat male infertility Vericocelectomy is a specific surgical treatment for male infertility. This surgery is generally used for the removal of Varicoceles, the enlarged and dilated veins situated in the scrotum and the elimination of these enlarged veins lead to an increased production of male sperm and thus infertility is cured.
• Vasoepididymostomy is another surgical treatment generally used to link the testes and by correcting obstruction in the tube that connects these two organs.

Drugs

Medicines are used to treat infections occurring in the prostrate, urinary tract and testes, a significant cause of male infertility. Some of the medications are also used to treat several hormonal dysfunctions and facilitate the production of sperm as measures to combat male infertility. These measures are termed as assisted reproduction techniques and are used occasionally to treat male infertility.
